Sorry. I didn't feel like dragging out the crew and finishing up the few shots I needed to do in order to complete the full short movie. It was going into the half hour range or better anyway. It's for the best I don't finish it.

At least this way I can focus on making something new, fresh and exciting. Spending that much time, money and effort to make a director's cut of a movie that lost in the contest doesn't appeal much to me.

At least I took 4th in the contest. That was cool... 'cept the contest only awards first, second and third place. You know, I have roughly 2 hours of raw footage from this whole production as well as over 200 hours of pre-production prep time. The new URL is posted below!

Anyway... Finally the day has arrived. Sorry there has been minimal updates. Everyone involved in this project has really been busy lately. We've all been a little overwhelmed with the 'after summer rush' with school, work and the like. Doesn't mean we aren't planning our next movie, however. We're all over that. We need to make a dent in this contest, first, and move on to the next!

The "Making Of" and the "Directer's Cut" are being worked on. No worries. They just might take a little longer then originally thought. But vote for us if you will! Vote 10 and tell your friends to do the same! The first film we are actually going to see until fruitation is a film for a short film contest going on over at GameVideos.com. The contest is a fan-film affair based on the Dungeons and Dragons license. The objective is, and this is a direct quote here, to "create the best 5 minute of Dungeons and Dragons" on the net. Entries are due on the 1st of September and voting begins on September 15th. We plan on winning this thing. If we do, our movie production crew can gain access to the proper gear to begin making movies on a more regular basis.

Anyway, let's jab a little about this movie in general. First of all, this whole movie was written by me, Jay. From the get go I knew there was little I was able to do to make this movie a grand production. Hence, I tried to make this movie as grass roots as possible to get the most bang out of my buck. Funding was low, around 500 dollars or so... meaning I had to cut a few corners to make this happen.

First order of business was deciding on a script. That took me at least a week of sitting in my garage to figure out. Eventually I figured that everyone and their monkey was going to be making "slapstick" gaming movies. On a budget of 20 bucks, people would sit around and make fun of being a gamer. Well, that wasn't going to work. Even though all of us were gamers, we were far from your typical group... a lot of gamers would not relate to us, whatsoever. So decided on a fantasy movie.

Next step was picking the actors, which was simple. I only had a handful of people who I could call on the drop of a dime. And then, I began work on the monster... and sheesh if that thing didn't cost me almost half my budget and half my pre-production time. Day and night I was working on that thing. Good thing is it came out excellent. In my next post I'll have to post a picture or two. So, as the date approached, we picked a spot, got my scripts in gear and set out. Unfortunately, we didn't get nearly enough done that day so this weekend we're trying to bring it all together.

Speaking of which, I need to get back to making the music for this thing. More updates to come soon, I swear!

YouTube Account Open.

Okay, so we now have a YouTube profile. Hopefully I can start tossing a few things live now... you know, just so we can get this ball rolling. Once the "Madness of the Eye" film is done I plan on starting right up with another movie.

Summer is closing... we need to get this bad boy going. With luck we can have 3 movies done by October. I'm planning a special movie for a Halloween Special if we can get that far. If you want to check out our YouTube page, head over to the "YouTube" link to the right on the side bar. Check out the 1Up profile if you would like as well. That one might not be updated as much since I only made it for the contest. Anyway... cheers!

Cast and Crew

In a few moments I'll be posting some photos of the cast, but for now I'll just go through a quick rundown of who exactly works on these projects and what it is they do. This listing is, of course, subject to change and will probably do so at the drop of a dime... but for now, this is how the Scrotum Pole stacks.

Jay - Writer, Director, Editor, Soundtack Artist, Cameraman
Kristina - Actress, Producer
Bryan - Actor, Creative Consultant, Fight Choreographer
Alene - Actress, Makeup Artist
Sarah - Actress, Makeup Artist, Set Designer
Colby - Actor, Creative Consultant
James - Pyrotecnics, Creative Consultant, Set Design
Keith - Actor, Assistant
Patrick (Ese) - Soundtrack Artist

And there you have it. A few names have been dropped off the list since the start of this whole project... but I am sure in the near future more names will be added. We are just getting up and going and within a small amount of time I'm guessing we'll be able to find a few fellow students who would not mind learning the trade with us.

First Shoot... Successful?

Well, last Saturday was the day we sat out to shoot the movie. So, suffice it to say, we shot bright and early first thing... Sunday. Heh. Granted, the set, cast and props weren't all set in stone, so shooting half assed would have been the only way we could have done so.

Sunday we lost 2 actors (Sheriff, Rogue) and the cameraman. Both cast roles were quickly given out to those willing and we went underway with the movie. Since the script was on my laptop convienantly located an entire state away, I ended up having to shoot Guerilla style. I show you the scene, act it out myself for you, then allow the actors to step in and do it. In this process, I had to teach Keith to swordfight and Colby to use a bow and arrow. Thankfully Bryan was decent enough to focus on his own fight scenes with Keith. Bryan opted to change the lead from a warrior to a monk, which worked out in the end. It made a little more sense anyway, speaking he didn't know a thing about swords but was near his black belt.

The girls took like, forever with their makeup. The only thing I can say is... it showed. Very nicely done. The Elf Runner, who is also my makeup artist, did a fantastic job with everyone's makeup. Except Keith... his sweat made the makeup drip into his eyes constantly. Next time we'll proceed with a dew rag or something. More to come here in a bit.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://10minutecinema.blogspot.com/2006/08/first-shoot-successful.html' title='First Shoot... Seriously, this time.

Okay, so, as some of you are aware, there is a little contest going on. This contest is being tossed by the good fellows at GameVideos. This contest is for anyone to create the best 5 minute movie they can and post it on their website. The movies are concerning Dungeons and Dragons and, as you might have been able to tell... I've joined this contest. More info to come. Boy, I should have been on this from day 1.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://10minutecinema.blogspot.com/2006/08/it-has-begun-seriously-this-time.html' title='It has begun...
